Atiq Jameh Mosque is one of the oldest standing mosques in Iran. Before being transformed in to a mosque, it has been a Zoroastrian fire temple in Sassanid era. Archeological discoveries, including a pillar bottom, have proven the pre-Islamic history of the building but its exact foundation date remains a mystery. The best estimates suggest that building this place dates back to 2000 years ago with reconstructions and renovations continuing in different eras until the 20th century.
